Matt Downs Wins Round Three
MATT DOWNS TAKES WIN NUMBER TWO AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
TOOELE, Utah May 16 – Matt Downs, Butterfield, Minn., took his second victory of the season winning by 12.147 over brother Lucas Downs, after Lucas spun on lap six of the 30-minute race.
Early in the race Lucas set the pace, extending his lead to over five seconds before his spin that gave Matt the lead. Joel Feinberg, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., also got by Lucas when he spun, dropping him to third.
“He spun and I caught him,” Matt explained. “If he was a couple more feet ahead of me I would not have passed him.”
Feinberg tried to pass Matt for the lead on lap 16 and spun, giving Lucas second back and allowing Jonathan Gore, Franklin, Tenn., to sneak by.
Gore made an impressive run to third from his starting position of tenth. He got a great start, moving to sixth place by the end of the first lap. After Feinberg’s spin he filled Lucas’s mirrors, but couldn’t find a way by the pole setter.
“I didn’t want another Atlanta,” Lucas said. “Last time he got second from me at Atlanta. I was thinking come on checkered flag.”
The times from round three determine the starting lineup for round four tomorrow. Lucas will start on pole again when the green flag falls at 8:15 a.m.

Lucas Downs set the fast time of the morning posting a 1:44.772. Lucas is followed by Joel Feinberg and Kyle Marcelli.

Utah Grand Prix - Friday
Two practice sessions are in the books at Miller Motorsports Park. Lucas Downs (Eurosport Racing) set the fastest time of the day in the morning session. His best time was a 1:45.765.
Lucas led the second practice in the afternoon until the last minute when Joel Feinberg (Primetime) posted a fast lap with a 1:46.499. Feinberg was second in Practice 1, with a fast time of 1:45.967.
Johnny Meriggi (Primetime) improved on his time in the morning session to post the third fastest time of Practice Two with a 1:47.155.
Points leader Matt Downs (Eurosport) was third fastest in the first session with a 1:46.904.
Qualifying will take place tomorrow (Saturday, May 16) at 8:00 a.m. Round three of the 14-race series will take place at 1:25 p.m.
